Another drive out to Sherwood Park, this time along a street called Petroleum Way, allows me to get a bit closer to a chemical processing plant. Next door, another plant (not sure what it's for), which I could not sketch in ts entirety due to a train that stopped in front.

industrial landscape
An evening trip out to Sherwood Park yielded some drawings of heavy industry in this neck of the woods...

desktop landscapes...
Our extremely messy desktop in the study, reconsidered as a shifting landscape of activity, memories, and aspirations... (?!)

In the spirit of last year's series... this years trio of motorcycles, enabled by a beautiful sunny week.

My Little Pony at K-Days
This year's K-Days features a "My Little Pony-Equestria Girls" show at the Kids Hall, which we made sure not to miss on account of my daughter who has recently been drawing nothing but cartoon ponies (superimposed here onto my sketch of the army of young families with little daughters in tow). Her fascination with this franchise has lasted a year now and shows no signs of waning. I have to admit that the "cafeteria song" is eye-opening-ly catchy.

sewer work
There is some extensive sewer maintenance work going on downtown, and some pretty interesting vehicles in the mix.
There has been a musty haze over the city for the past two days due to major forest fires in the west, resulting in a warm golden light even at mid day... hence the use of yellow background.

two Edmonton parks
Two Edmonton park scenes... the "willow" sculpture in the newly refurbished Borden Park, and a tranquil afternoon scene at Victoria Park -- a young girl picking clover flowers to make a crown in the soft afternoon sun -- after our church picnic.

fire truck with tower ladder
As a follow up to last week's post of fire trucks, today I managed to catch a fire engine with a ladder parked outside the local fire station. Fortunately, I finished the sketch just before it was called to an emergency somewhere on Jasper Avenue.

for my father
I am not sure whether my father kept the paint tubes in this bag to begin with, but it seemed an apt keepsake, because my father sure liked his whiskey (it sure contributed to his passing in one way or another), and he also enjoyed painting (it was a social activity that gave him life in his later years). As I drew these, I couldn't help but think that each of these tubes has left for me a physical imprint of the life he lived as his fingers squeezed colours out from these Holbein tubes.

Da Capo Caffe
The cafe we happened to walk into had a great little outdoor seating area, and wonderful gelato (and coffee).

Canada Day outing
A restored 1920s classroom from the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village east of Edmonton, where we pretended to be a 1920s class being taught a history lesson on confederation... and my son on the way home afterwards.
